More Fish Dance Company
mission
We derive our name from the philosophy of leaving behind what doesn’t work, with the knowledge that there’s always more to be explored and discovered. The imagery of fish, ocean, and water embodies our ethos of adaptability and evolution.

Founded in 2022 by Artistic Director, Doron Perk, More Fish is a platform for dance artists to work, learn from each other, and produce radically creative art. The core values are the play between discipline vs freedom, direction vs relinquishing control, and authority vs autonomy. Ongoing projects include ‘Open Studios’ and ‘Show & Tell’. These bring multiple artists together to choreograph, teach, and perform for one another. The continual exchange of roles breaks down traditional hierarchies and creates a cross-pollination effect, prompting generosity and trust within the community. More Fish artists stay open to lead or follow with respect and mutual feedback, both in the creative process and the movement itself. We create a space that is vulnerable yet powerful, cultivating exceptional dance artistry. More Fish performances entertain, expand the audience’s mind, and promote empathy. Our mission is to contribute to a shared cultural experience that transcends perceived borders and connects us all through dance.
Doron’s artistic statement
Juxtaposing ballet’s precision and grace with Gaga’s organic and imaginative research, my approach to dance seeks to transcend traditional boundaries and cultivate a unique and expressive vocabulary. As a choreographer, I thrive on the tension between structure and freedom, best exemplified in More Fish’s The Moment, an improvisational score in which the performers take turns leading, following, interpreting, and directing. This tension manifests in my teachings through the balance of guiding with intention versus relinquishing control. I encourage students to integrate their intuition within my instructions, from the belief that curiosity and playfulness are vital aspects of growth. In my third decade of life, I continue expanding my education by taking house dance, gymnastics, piano, and voice lessons. This mix opens me to a rich tapestry of movement possibilities, deepens my musical understanding, and furthers my exploration of juxtapositioned philosophies.

“For us, it’s like watching an exhilarating pick-up sports game without winners or losers… More Fish Dance Company is remarkably adept at creating spontaneous and intriguing worlds.” – Christine Jowers, the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Dance Enthusiast, wrote about The Moment, April 2024 | read more from the press
“Any classes and practices which I visited in NYC can’t compare with Open Studios. It’s very unique. It’s a safe space for professionals to try new things, experiment, and learn different techniques like a student. When leading a session you feel comfortable sharing your knowledge and methods of work or creating. ” Jenya Romanovich wrote about Open Studios, November 2023 | read more from the community
